Ben Keefer, a 30 year old from Hermitage C.C., shot a final round six under 66 for a two day total of 138 and defeated Tim Kelley in a two hole sudden death playoff. Keefer, the 1996 RGA Junior Champion, sank an eight foot birdie putt on the second playoff hole to defeat Kelley who fired a final round 67. Kelley was attempting to add the 2009 Mid Amateur Championship to his 2009 City Amateur and Senior Amateur Championships. First round leader, Robert Nussey, carded a final round 73 to miss the playoff by one shot.
Keefer made six birdies against no bogeys to complete his six under round. The highlight of his round was a thirty foot, sidehill birdie putt on the eight hole. Kelley answered with five birdies and no bogeys to complete his five under 67. Nussey (matched in a final group battle with Glenn Mullian and unaware that Keefer and Kelley had finished at six under) three putted the eighteenth hole to miss the playoff by one shot.

2009 Mid Am Champion accepts the Championship Trophy from Bert Wilson, RGA president.
The Mill Quarter golf course was in excellent condition and played at 6700 yards for the two day tournament. The RGA would like to express its appreciation and thanks to Dave Daniels and the entire staff at Mill Quarter for all their efforts. In addition to the course being in top condition all aspects of the tournament were top notch. Great job guys!
